Article: A Frosty Blanket

An image of a bull moose standing covered in frost amongst the willows in bluish grey tones.

A Frosty Blanket

“A Frosty Blanket”

Nature certainly knows how to camouflage its own.  It was a cool frosty morning in the Rocky Mountain meadows when we went passed this majestic bull moose several times before my wife spotted some movement within the willow bushes. We stopped and after scouring the area for some time we were able to find him lying down, as he blended in so well with his surroundings.

We waited for close to an hour in the sub-zero temperatures, contemplating who was going to go back to the car to get hot coffee! Needless to say, neither one of us left as we didn't want to miss the shot. Finally, when he did stand up, I got this 1 shot in before the sun broke over the mountain and he quickly defrosted. This just shows how well insulated and adapted these amazing animals are, and that timing is everything!
