Baby Yoga Bear

“Baby Yoga Bear”

While photographing Alaskan Brown Bears in Lake Clarke Nat. Park in Alaska, we spent many hours watching the mothers and their cubs as they grazed in the sedge grass nearby.  Meanwhile the male bears, the boars, who wanted to kill the cubs to put the mothers back into heat, would keep their distance as they didn’t like to be around humans. The mothers picked up on this and would use us humans as a safety shield, therefore they felt quite comfortable around us. If the cubs weren’t eating or playing, they would sleep nearby. Upon rising from a nap, the cubs would stretch and what seemed like pose for our cameras, but always stayed near their protective mother. This particular stretch made me laugh as it reminded me of the hamstring stretch my wife does in her yoga class!
