The Declaration
There’s a sound in the mountains each fall that stops you in your tracks…
It was early one autumn morning in the Canadian Rockies when I came upon him, standing alone in a quiet meadow, framed by the soft golds and fading greens of the season. The air was crisp, the kind that carries sound in a way that feels almost surreal.
And then he called.
A deep, haunting bugle broke through the stillness, rising and echoing against the mountains. It wasn’t just a sound, it was a declaration. This bull elk was making it known: this meadow was his territory. A warning to any rival within earshot… and an invitation to those nearby who were listening.
The call carried far into the distance, bouncing from ridge to ridge, filling the valley with a raw, wild energy that you can’t quite put into words, only feel.
He stood tall, completely in his element. Powerful. Focused. Unshaken.
Moments like this remind us that autumn isn’t just a change in color… it’s a season of intensity, of survival, of life unfolding in its most primal form.
Declaration captures more than a bull elk in a meadow.
It holds the echo of that call…
and the feeling of standing in the presence of something truly wild.
