Article: Peek-a-Boo

Pine Marten looking around a tree.

Peek-a-Boo

Some of the best moments in nature happen when you’re not rushing to get somewhere…

Along the Bow Valley Parkway, the pace feels different. With a slower speed limit, you’re given something rare, a chance to truly take it all in. The towering spruce trees, the shifting light, and if you’re lucky… the wildlife that calls this place home.

We’ve learned to embrace that slower rhythm.

On this particular day, a flash of movement caught my eye, a pine marten darting quickly across the road. Because I was already moving at a mindful pace, I was able to safely come to a stop. Moments like that don’t give you much time… but they give you just enough if you’re paying attention.

I scanned the trees, and there he was.

Perched along the trunk of a spruce, almost blending into the forest, he paused. Then, for just a brief second, he leaned out from behind the tree and peeked at me, curious, cautious, and completely wild.

And just like that… the moment passed.

Peek-a-boo is a reminder of what can happen when we slow down.
When we trade speed for awareness… and allow nature to reveal itself, one fleeting moment at a time.
