Reflections of Stillness
There are moments in nature that feel almost untouched… like time itself has slowed down.
This great blue heron was a familiar presence in our local marsh. On many evenings, we would find ourselves drawn back to that quiet place, hoping for just a glimpse of him again. He was always cautious, quick to take flight at the slightest sound or movement, so every approach became a careful balance of patience and respect.
That night was different.
As we eased our way toward the water, moving slowly and quietly, he remained. Standing perfectly still on a weathered branch, he seemed almost statuesque… completely focused, completely present.
The water around him was like glass.
In that stillness, his reflection formed so clearly it felt like a mirror, two worlds meeting at the surface. Above, the watchful hunter. Below, a perfect echo of patience and calm. Not a ripple, not a sound… just a quiet moment suspended in time.
He waited there, unmoving, for his supper, embodying the kind of patience the wild so often teaches us, if we’re willing to slow down enough to see it.
Moments like this aren’t rushed. They’re given.
Silent Reflection captures more than a great blue heron in the marsh.
It holds the stillness of the evening…
and the quiet reward of simply being present.
