Article: Autumn Crooner

A bull elk lifting his head to bugle in an autumn background

Autumn Crooner

One early September morning in the Rocky Mountains, during the height of the autumn rut, Stan witnessed a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the season. The air was still and cool as a bull elk stood among the landscape, fully immersed in the rhythm of the rut.

With nearby cows listening, he tilted his head back and released a powerful bugle - his unmistakable love song echoing through the mountains. It was his way of serenading his harem, a call filled with strength, confidence, and intention. In that moment, he reminded me of a classic crooner, singing only for his audience of attentive ladies.

Stan pressed the shutter as that sound filled the valley, freezing a fleeting moment where instinct, beauty, and wild romance came together. Autumn Crooner captures that timeless ritual of the elk rut - a reminder that even in the wild, there are moments of pure expression meant to be heard, felt, and remembered.
