The Sentinel

The Sentinel

“The Sentinel”

In the fall of 2020, we took a small group of people on a guided Grizzly Safari down the Chilko River in Central BC.  It was early Sept. and the salmon were just starting to return to spawn. The bears were also starting to return for their annual feast and so were the majestic eagles! It was amazing to see the number of eagles, in all stages of maturity, perched high up in the trees along the riverbanks. It was here we often saw this mature bald eagle scouring the river for salmon, as fish is 70-90% of their diet. They’re also known to forage for leftovers by the grizzlies, so where there’s bears – you can bet there’s eagles! What better place to be positioned to keep watch when you’re the sentinel of the forest!
