“The Bachelor”
Once the elk rut begins in the fall, the mature male bulls challenge each other vocally with high-pitched shrill-like whistles commonly knowns as bugles. During this time, these aggressive bulls gather harems of females which they will defend against competing bulls. Although this bull was much larger in size than his counterpart, the younger, much stronger bull was able to defeat him and steal away his harem. For now, he will join the ranks of the other patrolling bachelors … until they meet again.
