Article: Evening Stroll

A black bear standing in a forest.

Evening Stroll

While driving through the mountains one summer day, we came across a large, healthy black bear moving slowly along a hillside alive with blooming wildflowers.

It was one of those moments where everything felt perfectly in place.

The bear moved with quiet purpose, nose to the ground, foraging steadily through the grasses and flowers. Each step was deliberate—searching for plants, grubs, and anything else he could find to help build the fat reserves needed for the long winter ahead.

Summer is a critical time for black bears.

Every bite matters.

As they prepare for hibernation, their focus becomes singular—eating, storing energy, and taking full advantage of the season’s abundance. Watching this bear work the hillside, completely immersed in the task, was a powerful reminder of how instinct and survival shape every movement.

Scenes like this are as beautiful as they are important.

And they come with a responsibility.

Whenever we encounter wildlife—especially while they are feeding—we make a conscious effort to keep our distance. Giving them the space they need ensures they can continue their natural behaviors without stress or interruption.

It’s a simple choice that makes a big difference.

And for moments like this… we’re always grateful for our long lenses.
