Article: Tangle Creek Falls

Tangle Creek water fall in the Canadian Rockies.

Tangle Creek Falls

Located just 7 kilometres north of the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre along the world-renowned Icefields Parkway, Tangle Creek Falls is one of the most captivating waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies.

Set between Jasper National Park and Banff National Park, these falls draw you in long before you even step out of your vehicle.

Water tumbles a total of 114 feet down the mountainside, spilling across a series of cascading tiers—14 feet, 18 feet, and 13 feet—before joining together in a powerful final plunge. Multiple streams weave and overlap at the top, creating a dynamic, ever-changing flow that feels both wild and intricate.

On this day, the force of the falls was unmistakable.

The spray rose high into the air, drifting across the roadside and catching the light in a fine mist, so close you could feel the energy of the water before even reaching the base.

There’s something about these falls that feels alive. Untamed.

Almost sculptural in the way the streams twist and intertwine before plunging downward.

It’s said the name “Tangle Creek” may have come from early explorers crossing nearby Wilcox Pass, pushing their way through dense, tangled brush.

And somehow, that name feels fitting.

Because looking at these falls, you see that same sense of movement—water twisting, crossing, and merging into one powerful force.

A place where nature doesn’t flow in straight lines… But in wild, beautiful patterns.
