Winter's Gentle Gaze - Mule Deer
"Winter’s Gentle Gaze"
When we lived on our acreage in Water Valley, our forest walks often began in quiet solitude. No deer in sight, no movement among the trees - just the stillness of the winter woods. But it never stayed that way for long.
Within minutes, we could feel it - the unmistakable sense of being watched. A soft awareness would settle in, and when we paused to look around, there they were: a small gathering of mule deer does and their young, peering at us through snow-covered branches with calm, curious eyes.
On the coldest mornings, when fresh snow lay thick and the forest held its breath, the world became so silent we could hear their gentle breathing. Their presence felt like a quiet blessing, a reminder of how wildlife observes us just as intently as we observe them.
Winter’s Gentle Gaze captures one of those tender moments - when the boundary between our world and theirs seemed to disappear, and we were simply two beings sharing the peaceful hush of winter.
