“Curiosity”

While out driving around one late afternoon, I spotted a mother red fox with her kits playing in a ditch up the road. I immediately slowed down and as I got closer, they all ran off into the dense protection of the forest. But then suddenly one of the little fox kits appeared in the tall grass at the edge of the forest. Likely never having seen many humans before he was rather curious at what this thing was on the road. I spoke to him calmly and softly and asked him to sit pretty like a dog. Instantly he dropped his butt and sat there, but only for a moment, as momma fox suddenly made a sharp demanding “yip” to him, which he then quickly scampered back into the forest to join his family and the security of his mother’s protection. So grateful for moments like this in nature that stay with you forever!
