Wilderness Melody
Truly a symbol of the wild is the lonesome, flute-like wail of the Common Loon. Hearing their call awakens your senses to the quiet, breathtaking splendor nature has to offer.
For years, I tried to capture a moment like this… searching for their young, while the parents kept them carefully hidden from sight. Even when they did appear, everything had to come together—the light, the wind, the reflections—and somehow, all three sets of eyes looking just right.
On this day, it finally did.
Though no longer a tiny baby, I was able to capture this peaceful family moment—one that felt long overdue. The soft green tones of the water, created by sunlight reflecting off the surrounding spruce trees, added a gentle calm to the scene… as if nature itself was holding still for just a moment.
These are the birds that have always been near and dear to my heart—and this moment was one I’ll never forget.
