Curiosity
One late afternoon, while out for a quiet drive, we came across a mother red fox and her playful kits in a roadside ditch just up ahead. As we slowly approached, they disappeared in an instant, slipping into the safety of the dense forest beyond.
But then… a small movement caught my eye.
One curious little kit reappeared, standing in the tall grass at the forest’s edge. Perhaps he had never seen something like us before, because instead of running, he paused… watching.
I spoke softly to him, almost in a whisper, and gently asked him to “sit pretty,” like you would a dog. To my surprise, he did just that. For a brief moment, he sat there, perfectly still, as if trying to understand this quiet exchange.
And then, from within the trees, came a sharp, unmistakable “yip.”
In an instant, the spell was broken. The little kit turned and scampered back into the forest, returning to the safety of his mother and siblings.
Moments like these… fleeting, unexpected, and full of wonder… are the ones that stay with you forever.
