Morant's Curve

Morant's Curve

One of my most memorable times in nature was the day we finally caught the train passing through Morant's Curve in the Rocky Mountains near Lake Louise. We had stopped here numerous times over the past 40 years and had never seen the train come through. This day, like many others, I stopped to grab a quick video of the beautiful landscape that always kept me in awe while Stan stayed waiting for me in the car. As soon as I got to the railing I heard a whistle blow in the far distance as it echoed through the valley. It actually took my brain a few seconds to register that "the train was coming!" I quickly ran back to the car, over the icy path, to tell Stan so he could catch it with his 500mm lens. Fearing we would miss the moment, we quickly and cautiously made our way across the icy parking lot, back to the railing alongside the road. Surprisingly we actually stood there for at least 5 minutes, realizing then that the train had to slow down to pass through Lake Louise before making it's way to this infamous bend along the Bow River. And what a sight it was!!!

My Dad had worked on the railroad for over 40 years so I had grown up along railroad tracks my whole life. At that moment, I knew my Dad was with me once again.
