Spring Awakening
There’s a certain energy in early spring, when the mountains begin to soften, and life slowly returns to the land.
High above, tucked into rocky dens, the Grizzly Bear begins to stir.
After months of winter sleep, hunger takes over.
One by one, they emerge, lean, focused, and driven by instinct. From the rugged alpine slopes, they make their way down into the valleys below, where the snow has finally begun to melt away.
And waiting for them… is one of their first meals of the season.
Fresh green grass. And patches of nutrient-rich Dandelion.
Simple and abundant. Exactly what they need.
From the safety of our vehicle, we watched as one bear moved with purpose across the landscape—nose low, eyes scanning, stopping only when it found a dense patch of these early spring greens.
And then it fed.
With surprising speed and focus, it devoured mouthful after mouthful, barely pausing as it worked its way across the patch. After a long winter, every bite matters, and it shows.
There’s something both powerful and grounding about witnessing this moment.
No rush. No distraction.
Just instinct, survival… and the quiet rhythm of the wild returning to life.
Because in spring, for a grizzly bear, there’s only one thing on its mind, food.
