In the Quiet Presence of Giants
There’s something incredibly humbling about standing quietly in the presence of a moose family.
On this crisp autumn day in the Canadian Rockies near Jasper, the air carried that familiar chill - the kind that brushes your cheeks and reminds you that the seasons are shifting. The grasses had turned to soft gold, and the world felt calm… almost hushed.
We had been moving slowly through the area, taking in the stillness, when we came across this small family. A proud bull stood watch, his massive antlers framed against the muted tones of fall, while the cow and calf stayed close by. There was no rush, no alarm - just a quiet awareness of one another, and of us.
Moments like this are rare.
Spending time with these majestic animals one on one, without disruption, feels like being invited into their world, even if just for a few minutes. You find yourself breathing slower, moving softer, and simply observing. The bond between them was unmistakable - the gentle way they stayed together, the calm presence of the bull, always aware, always watching.
We didn’t speak. We didn’t need to.
In that cool autumn air, surrounded by golden grasses and silence, it felt like time paused - just long enough for us to witness something truly special.
And then, as quietly as we found them, we left… carrying that moment with us.
