Article: Foraging

A black bear walking through the forest.

Foraging

While driving through the mountains one summer day, we came across a large, healthy black bear moving slowly along a hillside alive with blooming wildflowers. It was one of those moments where everything felt perfectly in place.

He foraged with quiet purpose, nose to the ground, searching for plants, grubs, and anything else he could find to help build the fat reserves needed for the long winter ahead. Every bite matters during this season, and it’s incredible to witness just how focused they are on preparing for hibernation.

Moments like this are a gentle reminder of the importance of giving wildlife the space they need. When we see animals hunting or foraging, we always keep a respectful distance, allowing them to carry on undisturbed.

And for that… we’re always grateful for our long lenses.
