Young Guns

“Young Guns”

In Sept. 2020 we spent a week in Central British Columbia photographing grizzlies along the Chilko River. While traveling along in a river boat we came upon a mother bear and her two young cubs. Momma had just finished eating a 30 lb salmon, so she was lazily lying in the shallow water nearby digesting her feast. But before doing so, she had gathered a collection of fish and had buried them in a pile for a future feast. Here the two little cubs are sitting proudly on top of the pile of fish carcases and bones as though they were young guns guarding the cache. I love the inquisitive look of these innocent cubs as we were likely the very first humans they had ever seen.
