Mountain Bugle

“Mountain Bugle”

Nature has a number of very distinctive sounds and hearing the bellowing call of a bull elk during the rut is certainly one of them! What begins deep and resonating, soon becomes a high-pitched squeal before ending in a succession of grunts that can often be heard from miles away. The intensity of their bugle sends a message to warn or intimidate other bulls, call cows, locate other elk, and to announce their location to the other cows, which can be heard from dusk to dawn during this their mating season. Whenever we go to the mountains in the autumn, it always takes our breath away as we stop and listen to the distance call of the distinctive mountain bugle.
