Article: After the Feast

A female grizzly and her cubs by a river.

After the Feast

“After the Feast”

While on our Grizzly Photo Safari in Central BC, we would spend the days floating down the river as this was the time the bears were coming down to fatten up on the salmon for their winter hibernation. This day we came across “White Claws” and her cubs along the shoreline. The local rangers had done a fish count there, where they cut the tails off for proof of numbers and discard the rest of the fish along the shoreline. This momma hit the jackpot and so she and the cubs had quite a feast! After they had their fill, White Claws then gathered the rest of the bones and carcases into a pile and buried them for a later meal. After the cubs ambled up onto the pile, momma then made her way into the water and laid her full belly down into the cool water where she settled in for a well-deserved nap, while digesting her big score.
